I am honored to nominate Ellen Lain for the DAISY Award in recognition of her exceptional and deeply compassionate care during my recent hospitalization in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Ellen has been my nurse on more than one occasion, and each time she has left a lasting impact on my healing and well-being.

During my most recent and particularly vulnerable stay in SICU. Ellen once again delivered truly patient-centered care-placing not just my medical needs, but my emotional and psychological well-being at the heart of her practice. Her attention to detail, empathy, and calming presence made an overwhelming situation feel manageable. What sets Ellen apart is her holistic approach-not only does she care for the patient, but she extends that same compassion and support to the family.

My husband was distraught during this hospitalization, and Ellen became the calm in the storm for him. She recognized his fear and responded not just with words, but with quiet, consistent reassurance that brought him comfort and peace when he needed it most.

Ellen's ability to remain present, composed, and genuinely compassionate in high-stress moments is a testament to her extraordinary skill and dedication as a nurse. She embodies what it means to treat the whole person, not just the illness. In every interaction, she makes you feel seen, safe, and cared for. Ellen has made a profound difference in my family's life and mine. Her presence during some of the most vulnerable moments has been a source of strength and healing. I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition.
