She put my needs first and truly showed her commitment to me and her patients.
I encountered Grace as my post-op nurse for a late-night and unplanned D&E. I had met Grace previously as my pre-op nurse in October for a planned D&E for my first loss. During both encounters, I appreciated the compassion and integrity that Grace showed me; however, this second encounter was special. Grace had been called in around 8:30 pm due to my surgery.

As soon as she walked in, I felt a sigh of relief and loved seeing a familiar face. She quickly made it known to me that she didn't care about getting called in late or that she had to be back early in the morning. I distantly remember her telling me, "I was just watching Breaking Bad with my husband, nothing to worry about." She sat with me as we waited for the anesthesiologist to arrive and kept me calm and distracted as we waited for my husband to arrive, who had been called in to work due to the crazy storm that hit Carlisle that night.

She listened as I told her the events of the day leading to my ER visit and surgery. We talked about my 3-year-old daughter and the fact that they shared the same name, along with looking at pictures, of course. Grace earned my trust and confidence as we talked about my history, and this was my fourth loss. She related to my situation by sharing a story of her friend who had also experienced loss. She made sure she reached out to the bereavement groups and that I had all the support she knew of, including the gift bag from the Sweet Grace Ministry.

Grace showed passion and respect throughout our whole time together and is truly the sweetest and most compassionate nurse I could have asked for that night. Even as she was discharging me at 11:30 pm, knowing she had to be back in the morning, she again made it clear she didn't mind. She put my needs first and truly showed her commitment to me and her patients.

One thing that I noticed during the time of loss is that you remember those close discussions and things people say. Grace provided all the right words and support during this difficult time. I will be forever grateful that she was one of my nurses that night and appreciate her commitment to caring for others.

Thank you for everything, Grace.
