Jessica contacted one of his specialists, and together they coordinated temporary refills until he could be seen by a new primary provider.
Jessica cared for a patient undergoing a lower-leg peripheral study. She built rapport early and provided thorough information about what to expect during and after the procedure. When the patient returned to her care post-procedure, he was agitated—the procedure had been lengthy and required six hours of strict bed rest. He repeatedly tried to move his legs and expressed significant discomfort. Jessica stayed by his side, consistently reminding him of the safety concerns and the importance of maintaining bed rest. She transferred him from the procedure cart to a regular bed with a more comfortable mattress, helped him eat and drink, and maintained a kind, caring, and professional demeanor throughout. In talking further with him, Jessica learned that his primary doctor had recently left the system abruptly, leaving him in need of multiple medication refills. Jessica contacted one of his specialists, and together they coordinated temporary refills until he could be seen by a new primary provider. By the end of the day, the patient was laughing and joking with Jessica, clearly grateful to have her as his nurse. Jessica is always an excellent nurse, but on this day she was truly exceptional in the face of a challenging situation.
