His willingness to set aside administrative duties and provide direct clinical support ensured that patient care was not compromised and that the nurse on duty felt fully supported.
I would like to recognize Charge Nurse Kiran for his exceptional teamwork and dedication to patient care.
During a particularly challenging period when the hospital was operating at full capacity, with no available beds and high patient demand, Kiran demonstrated remarkable initiative and professionalism. Although his primary responsibility is as the Charge Nurse of the VIP Ward, he has also taken on the commissioning of Ward 2A. At the time, both the Charge Nurse and the Manager of the Surgical Ward and Day Care Unit were on leave.
Recognizing the urgent need to manage patient overflow and ensure continuity of care, Kiran stepped forward without hesitation. He personally went to the Day Care Unit, which had only one nurse available at the time to open and manage patients. Despite this area not falling under his direct assignment, Kiran assumed a hands-on bedside nursing role, admitting and caring for patients alongside his colleague. His willingness to set aside administrative duties and provide direct clinical support ensured that patient care was not compromised and that the nurse on duty felt fully supported.
Throughout the day, Kiran continued to oversee operations across multiple areas, maintaining composure, clear communication, and a strong sense of teamwork. His actions not only alleviated immediate operational challenges but also exemplified the true spirit of nursing — service, adaptability, and compassion.
This was not an isolated incident; Kiran is consistently known for his readiness to assist colleagues beyond his own unit and for fostering a supportive environment across departments. His sense of responsibility and dedication to both patients and staff is extraordinary
.
Kiran’s conduct on that day serves as an inspiring example of leadership in action — a reflection of his commitment to excellence and the values that the DAISY Award seeks to honour.
