She didn't have to do any of that, but she did it because she genuinely cared.
I would like to recognize Lorraine, a nurse from NST, for her incredible compassion and strength during one of the most traumatic and life-altering experiences of my life: my labor and delivery. I went into labor with twins and planned for a VBAC. Baby A was delivered vaginally, but things quickly became critical when Baby B experienced an umbilical cord prolapse.
I was rushed into an emergency C-section, lost nearly 5 liters of blood, and had to undergo an IR procedure afterward to stop the bleeding. It was terrifying, painful, and overwhelming. Through it all, Lorraine stood by me, not just as a nurse but as a true source of comfort. She held my hand, constantly reassured me, and did everything she could to keep me grounded in a moment when I felt like I was slipping away. Even between her duties, she continued to check in on me, asking my primary nurse how I was doing and coming into my room just to see how I was recovering both physically and emotionally.
She didn't have to do any of that, but she did it because she genuinely cared. Her presence helped me feel safe and seen during a time of fear and uncertainty. I truly believe that Lorraine's compassion and presence made a lasting impact on my healing. She deserves to be recognized for the extraordinary nurse and person that she is.
