I am a nurse who works at the building where I had my surgery done. It wasn’t a comfortable situation for me, and even more uncomfortable when I ended up being admitted the night before my surgery. Darby was my nurse the day of the surgery, and I could tell the moment she introduced herself that she was an exceptional nurse. She met me where I was. She didn’t treat me as a nurse who knew everything, or as an employee who worked here. She treated me as her patient, and as I can only imagine, she treats every single person she meets.

She explained the process, kept the communication open when I got bumped, sympathized when I was scared, and delivered top-notch post-surgical care. There are some nurses you can tell love their job, and she is one of them. She even had food ready for me when I got back since I wasn’t able to eat for two days. Her processes of “scrubbing the hub” and “five rights” she did without thinking, and I could tell it’s her natural muscle memory. It’s the little things that make her stand apart from everyone else. I wanted to thank her for making me feel so comfortable and cared for, and above all, safe. Thank you, Darby. You’re in the right profession!
