Those words changed our lives. She gave us what we desperately needed: hope!
My husband had a life-changing spinal cord injury and needed emergency surgery. Post surgery, we were told he may need PT to learn to walk again. Day 3 post-op, he could not even stand and needed two people to move him to a chair.

We began to think he would be confined to a wheelchair for life. He was admitted to rehab on day 5. Up to this point, we were not given any hope that my husband would walk again. In addition to that, our daughter, who works at Forbes ICU, was getting married in six weeks. My husband was beyond stressed about how he could get her down the aisle and heartbroken if he would be in a wheelchair.

Enter Kenzie, who was our admitting nurse. As we were giving all the information she asked for and explaining her condition, it felt completely hopeless. We told her we were worried he would never walk again. Then Kenzie said those magic, comforting words, "He will walk again". She said reassuringly, "Miracles happen up here."

Those words changed our lives. She gave us what we desperately needed: hope! We went from thinking about life in a wheelchair to thinking about the opportunity for him to work hard and walk our daughter down the aisle in six weeks.

He did it using a cane, and Kenzie came to the wedding! We will never forget her for the compassion and hope she extended to us that day.
