An emergency department patient arrived via EMS, presenting with MVC injuries. Following the physician's orders for CT scans, nurse Kayla Hughes took the initiative to contact the CT department and personally escort the patient there. She had a keen sense that something was wrong and wanted to expedite the imaging to ensure the patient's safety. While in the CT department, Kayla noticed the patient's blood pressure beginning to drop. She immediately alerted the emergency department, informed them of the patient's deteriorating condition, and impending hypotension. Kayla promptly requested further orders to safeguard the patient's well-being. Thanks to Kayla's vigilance and quick action, the patient was escalated to a Category 1 trauma and received timely, life-saving treatment. Her exceptional knowledge, attentiveness, and proactive approach prevented delays and ensured the patient received the highest level of care. If my family were ever in the Seton Emergency Department, I would feel truly fortunate and reassured to have Kayla Hughes caring for them.
