Our son was born at Chambersburg Hospital with underdeveloped lungs. What should have been a happy day quickly became one of the scariest. While my wife was in recovery, I watched helplessly as they hooked a CPAP and an IV to my newborn son. Thankfully, we had the confident hands of the Chambersburg NICU Staff. After little to no improvement on day one, it was decided to administer surfactant. After that, our son made good progress each day. One of our nurses, Meghan, was with us through our son’s two-week stay. She was extremely helpful through it all. Explaining everything in detail. Reassuring us that, even though terrifying as it was, it was standard care. It may have taken a few days, but she gave us peace of mind. Gave us clarity about what was happening to our son. She eased our minds knowing a competent, professional nurse was taking care of our son. She made one of the most stressful moments of our lives bearable. We are truly thankful to have her in our corner. She should win this award because even in the last two weeks, we witnessed some pretty traumatic events. This job definitely isn’t for the faint of heart, especially with such tiny, fragile lives. She handles it with such grace.
