Flavia Taylor is a Band 6 Macmillan Head and Neck CNS at Northampton General Hospital. Flavia is a kind, caring, and hard-working CNS. Who goes above and beyond day in and out to ensure that patients have the best journey they can during a difficult period of their life. Flavia is always there to listen, advise, and support patients and do her best to ensure that their concerns are addressed in a timely manner.

Recently, we have seen a patient in the clinic who has recently completed treatment. When the patient was seen in the clinic, they presented with a whole host of problems, including financial, housing, lack of nutritional intake, and psychological issues. This patient had felt that there was nothing going for them and, unfortunately, attempted suicide recently. The patient is under the mental health team.

Flavia had made a list of concerns they had and within 24 hours ensured that the patient had financial support and access to money, managed to help find them alternative accommodation which is safe, and when in the clinic ensured they were fed at the canteen and went home with some fresh food which they eat when at home. The next day, Flavia accompanied them to an appointment to help with finances. The patient has reported that they feel that there is some light at the end of the tunnel, there is somebody who cares and listens to their concerns, and is making a huge difference within a short period of time.

The patient reports feeling like a totally different person within 24 hours and has a positive outlook on the future. They are very grateful for all the help. Flavia has gone above and beyond to make a positive change in the life of this patient, who was in a dark place.
