Kerry, without any hesitation at all, offered to accompany us, even though it meant staying way past the end of her shift when she had plans with family that evening.
We arrived at Children’s A&E with our 7-week-old baby boy; who we had rushed in. We were taken to a side room as Reilly hadn’t had his vaccinations, and after seeing the doctor, we were ushered into resus. Our new baby boy deteriorated and quickly became very poorly.
Kerry met us in resus and was so caring, reassuring, and supportive. She explained everything that was happening and was very empathetic - just what we needed in a very scary situation. It was quickly apparent that our son needed surgery on his bowel, and we would be transferred to Leicester Royal Infirmary for that procedure.
Kerry gave us as much detail as she could about what to expect, including the possibility of himneeding to be sedated so he was stable for the journey there. When the ambulance crew arrived to take us, Kerry, without any hesitation at all, offered to accompany us, even though it meant staying way past the end of her shift when she had plans with family that evening.
Her shift should have ended before we even left NGH, so she would have easily been 2 to 3 hours late getting home that evening and would have had to cancel her evening plans. Kerry is a credit to NGH, and the nursing profession, and we are incredibly grateful she was on duty that day. Thank you!
