Maggie made my husband, newborn, and me feel like we were her only patients. She was consistently kind, personable, and knowledgeable. I was so lost after my C-section. I hadn’t planned for one or done any research, so I knew nothing of how to care for myself or my daughter afterward. Maggie was so positive. She normalized and validated all of my feelings and moment-to-moment experiences while I was in her care. She was an old pro and never made me feel like a number. She was quick to anticipate and respond to my every ache and pain and ensure that I was made comfortable. She helped me manage my hygiene. No matter how disgusting I felt, she never made me feel awkward or embarrassed— just comforted. I felt so safe and taken care of.

It was hard not to feel awful when I wasn’t physically able to take care of my daughter after major surgery. Maggie was reassuring and encouraging. She also taught my husband how to care for our daughter step-by-step, which really increased his confidence. She also offered to care for our daughter so we could sleep. We could not have gotten through those first couple of days without her. If she weren’t our nurse, I imagine I would have perceived my recovery experience as really traumatic. I hope that everyone gets to have a nurse like Maggie because she is just all-around incredible!
