They preserved the mother's dignity, supported her family with honesty, and carried emotional and clinical responsibility far beyond routine nursing care. They did not simply provide medical treatment; they delivered humanity.
Hope Slept But Never Died

A young pregnant mother of three, only 26 years old, arrived at our hospital after being struck by a car while protecting her child. Her body was severely injured, she slipped into a coma, and remained connected to machines, yet she was still carrying her unborn baby.

After initial stabilization in the ICU, she was transferred to 2D LTC, a unit that normally does not care for obstetric patients. She was dependent on oxygen, NGT feeding, and a tracheostomy, confused and vulnerable; her family was devastated, her children longing for their mother’s voice, and her unborn baby depending on the care she could no longer give.

At that moment, the 2D LTC nursing team refused to see limitations; they saw a mother, a family, and a life worth fighting for. They learned, adapted, and educated themselves to safely manage a complex and unfamiliar obstetric case. They monitored every tiny change, cared for her respiratory needs, maintained fetal monitoring, and supported her family with compassion and honesty.

As the months passed, the miracle happened, the baby was born while her mother remained unconscious. Though the mother could not see her, the nurses gently placed her baby near her bed, believing that a mother’s heart might still recognize her child. They treated the newborn with affectionate hands, as if filling the void her mother could not. Her children visited quietly, touching their mother’s hand, waiting for a smile. The nurses held space for their sadness, listened to their questions, and comforted them as if they were their own.

This team embodied every SGH value: compassion, integrity, respect, and responsibility. They preserved the mother's dignity, supported her family with honesty, and carried emotional and clinical responsibility far beyond routine nursing care. They did not simply provide medical treatment; they delivered humanity. The 2D LTC team transformed an unimaginable tragedy into a journey of hope, dignity, and unconditional care, they became family when family felt helpless, through every shift, every touch, every word, they reminded us that nursing is more than a profession, it is love in action.

For the extraordinary compassion, the emotional support, the clinical excellence, and the deep humanity they offered to this mother and her family, we proudly recognize the 2D LTC Nursing Team for the DAISY Team Award. They did not just care for a patient. They cared for a mother, a baby, and an entire family. And that is the true meaning of nursing.
