While caring for a patient in the CCU, Amanda realized that the patient was struggling because they didn’t have glasses with them. This made it difficult for the patient to see and caused additional stress during an already vulnerable hospitalization in the ICU. Instead of simply noting the problem, Amanda went out of her way to make it right. On her own time, she went to the VA and purchased glasses for the patient so they could see clearly again.

This act of kindness went far beyond the expected duties of a nurse. By taking the initiative to meet such a basic but vital need, Amanda restored the patient’s dignity, comfort, and ability to participate more fully in their care.
