After this initial consult with him, Kristin took him to the cafeteria and bought his lunch and drinks before his ride came to pick him up, as he was very hungry.
Kristin is our Pre-Admission Testing nurse at Sycamore Shoals. Kristin is a very quiet person, but is a genuine, nice, very helpful nurse and person. On one such occasion, we had a joint camp on a Wednesday, and there was one certain man who had been calling her, and she had been talking and dealing with him previously. On joint camp day, he came in, and he was such a nice person, but a talker. He wanted to do his phone assessment in person, so she brought him back to her office, and she answered all his questions, and then he began to tell her more. He had bad living arrangements and had a very small, limited income, and no family. He was having trouble getting transportation to do his pre op testing, etc. He also told her he had no running water and would not be able to use the Hibiclens/bath wash before surgery or bathe. After this initial consult with him, Kristin took him to the cafeteria and bought his lunch and drinks before his ride came to pick him up, as he was very hungry. Once he left, Kristin called one of the Social Workers to set up transport and asked if he could get him a room the day before surgery so he could sleep, shower, and be able to rest and eat a good meal before his surgery. She also knew he could not go home due to his living conditions, with a total hip replacement, being alone, so she asked about getting him sent to rehab. I think Kristin is an excellent nurse in general, but she went above for this patient. This shows her caring heart as a nurse. She didn’t want glory or praise. All she wanted to do was to help this patient, and she has. I think everyone should see the true value of her heart and compassion as a nurse, but also as a human being.
