My husband has been an inpatient 4 times in the past 6 months; each time his stay was on the 9th floor of the cancer center. Bethany has been our nurse a couple of times during each of those stays. She has been amazing each time, but this last stay really gave us an opportunity to get to know her better and truly see her for the amazing nurse that she is.

Bethany recognizes that my husband is not the type that wants to bother his nurses so he only pushes the call button if absolutely needed. Knowing that, Bethany would frequently just check in on us to see if we needed anything. She anticipates his needs based on her experience with him and is proactive in taking care of him.

We appreciate her initiative in taking care of his medical needs, but what stands out most with Bethany is the emotional needs she takes care of as well. The realization of living with a permanent colostomy was daunting for my husband as well as some news he received from one of the doctors. My husband was pretty emotional and at one point while she was taking care of his medical needs, he broke down and cried. She held one hand while I held the other. The compassion and words of wisdom were so heartfelt that it truly brought tears to my eyes in gratefulness to having her there with us in that moment.

Her passion for her job and her patients is evident in all that she does. Her smile and warmth is such a treat in the midst of the chaos our lives were in. It is evident she is respected by her fellow team mates as well. We were truly blessed to have her on our team. As a caregiver, I am extremely grateful to know that my husband is in such good hands when I have to be away. I have complete confidence that he is well taken care of when I am not there. Thank you, Bethany, for being our hero and advocate! You will always be precious to us!
