Following my surgery, I was sent to the 7th floor, where I was taken care of by nurse Danilo (Dan) Rocha. Dan was not only a very hard working and dedicated nurse with a passion (P) for his profession and excellent service for the patients assigned to him. He was also an excellent and dedicated leader (A) as evidenced by the cooperation and positive attitude of all his team members that attended to me as well as to my wife who stayed with me around the clock for the three days (T).

My surgery was major and Dan treated it as such. He was so attentive to my care that he watched over me as if I was his father or son (E). Dan was very familiar with the complexity of my surgery and made sure that he and his team attended to me very frequently. At no time during my three day stay did I need to use the call button during my stay.

I was assigned to go home with oxygen and a walker – both of which were provided before my discharge. While in the hospital, Dan with the assistance of his nurse assistant walked me around the floor with the oxygen to make sure that I got the necessary exercise.

On the day that I was discharged, Dan went over the discharge instructions in great detail. He not only made (L) (S) sure that I understood everything, but also expanded/shared (S) the instructions using his extensive experience and knowledge of what I was to expect during the healing process and gave detail tips how to best handle what I was about to experience at home. My room was near the elevator. Leaving was a fantastic experience. We had a lot to take home and Dan provided a second wheelchair for our oxygen unit, the walker, and my wife’s travel items and mine. We felt like royals (L) as we had a goodbye with the route to the elevator lined with Dan, his assistants and many others wishing me and my wife well! If I were in a hiring position for a top shelf nurse that possessed all the (PETALS) attributes, I would certainly hire Dan!
