We have encountered many medical staff over the years, but Mack will always stand out to us as someone who cares about patients and goes above and beyond to provide comfort.
My son, who has chronic medical conditions, was transferred to UIHC from our local hospital. The ED at UIHC was very busy during the overnight hours, and it took a while for my son to be seen and treated. We mentioned to Mack that my son was in a lot of pain and needed help, and Mack jumped into action! Within a very short amount of time, Mack was able to get pain medication going, arrange his catheter placement, and move us to a quieter area of the ED.
Despite the number of patients needing assistance, when Mack helped my son to feel better, I felt like my son and his comfort mattered. Between the first ED and then the transfer to UIHC, we had been away from home for hours and were both exhausted. Mack’s caring attitude and attention to my son's comfort provided a tremendous amount of physical and mental relief for both of us! My son's anxiety is eased by conversation, and Mack took the time to chat with him while providing for my son's medical needs.
There were several things that stood out to me while Mack was helping my son, but I'm having trouble remembering some of the specifics that I had wanted to mention (we were very tired during this visit). The biggest thing that stays in my memory is how Mack made both my son and me feel. We went from feeling quite stressed about my son's pain to feeling comforted and relieved. Mack took excellent care of my son, all the way up to the point of transporting my son to his hospital room. We have encountered many medical staff over the years, but Mack will always stand out to us as someone who cares about patients and goes above and beyond to provide comfort. Thanks so much to Mack!
