Denise is the infection prevention nurse at Sutter Davis Hospital in Davis, CA. Denise does not usually provide direct patient care in her day-to-day duties, but in this case, she did. Denise is the only infection prevention nurse at the hospital and manages all the tasks regarding her role on a daily basis.

The hospital received a patient who was diagnosed with tuberculosis, which would require extensive treatment and testing. This patient was isolated in a medsurg room for over two weeks due to her condition. Denise provided care beyond her scope as an infection prevention nurse to this patient by visiting her daily, providing her with activities she bought herself, and fulfilling special meal requests for the patient.

Denise followed county and hospital policies to be able to have this patient go outside to get some fresh air on multiple occasions. Denise not only assured all proper processes were followed to provide care for this patient, but also assured this patient was as comfortable as she could be during her lengthy stay in our hospital.

Denise is a very caring and thoughtful nurse, and it takes a very dedicated nurse such as herself who goes above and beyond to provide a positive experience for a patient who is going through a difficult situation, as this patient was. Denise's selflessness, sense of care, and compassion for this patient during this difficult time was extraordinary.
