Margaret is the kind of nurse that patients still talk about days after she has taken care of them. She is the kind of nurse you would want to take care of your own family members with her ability to pay attention to detail, compassion for others, and commitment to excellence. After working alongside her for almost three years, I have witnessed time and time again her discipline to provide excellent nursing care. She is always first to question the plan of care if it doesn’t make sense while advocating for what her patients need, and is always willing to sit down and explain to her patients the why behind their plan of care. As a teammate, she takes care of her coworkers, always offers help, and is kind to everyone she meets. Margaret goes above and beyond our written job description every day, and I value what I have learned from her so much. She has taught me to start with a smile every day, to pause even in busy moments to make sure what I am doing is right for the patient, and how to encourage others through some of the hardest times of their life. My favorite part of my shifts is when I am introducing myself to my patient and their family in the morning, and they ask me if I know Margaret. Hearing how much of an impact she has had on their life and how much comfort she provides to her patients is something that motivates me to do the same every day. In conclusion, Margaret is incredibly deserving of the DAISY Award and will continue to make everyone and everything around her better.
