She skillfully managed my medical needs with confidence, knowledge, and experience, but what truly set her apart was the empathy she showed in recognizing and supporting the emotional toll of my loss.
I was admitted to the ICU through the ER Trauma Unit following a devastating head-on motor vehicle collision. The accident tragically took the life of my mother and the other driver who had crossed into our lane.
Amid this unimaginable trauma and grief, I became a patient under the care of Kelsey, who served as my morning/day shift nurse in the ICU. Kelsey was the epitome of compassionate care, not only as a nurse but as a human being. She skillfully managed my medical needs with confidence, knowledge, and experience, but what truly set her apart was the empathy she showed in recognizing and supporting the emotional toll of my loss.
She took the time to listen, to comfort, and to gently share her own insights, offering a presence that felt grounding and genuine when I needed it most. Although our time together was shorter than with some other nurses, the impression she left on me was lasting. Her kindness, empathy, and encouragement went far beyond clinical care.
To my surprise and deep appreciation, Kelsey visited me on her next shift after I had been transferred to another floor. She didn't have to, but she did. And not only did she stop by, but she also brought with her a helpful old textbook method she had remembered, which she thoughtfully prepared herself. That moment, small in gesture but immense in meaning, reminded me again of her extraordinary heart.
Kelsey is truly a gem in her profession. She embodies what it means to go above and beyond, and I will remain eternally grateful to her for the comfort, compassion, and strength she gave me during one of the most difficult moments in my life.
