A critically ill patient walked into the emergency department, in desperate need of care. Emily Mann was the registered nurse assigned to care for this patient. This patient had a variety of complex medical issues and would later be transferred to a facility that would provide the higher level of care needed for this patient to ultimately survive.

Even though this patient required complex care, Emily was constantly thinking outside of the box, exhausting every resource imaginable and then some in order to provide this patient with the best care imaginable. Her hard work and dedication showed through the top-notch care that was provided to this patient. This patient beat several odds that were set against him because of Emily’s expertise and quick thinking.

Knowing the patient could not advocate for himself, Emily stepped up and became this patient’s voice. Despite being accepted to another facility that specializes in the care needed for the patient, Emily faced yet another hurdle- transportation. After several failed attempts to arrange suitable transport to take this patient to the facility that they were accepted at, transport finally became available at the end of Emily’s scheduled shift.

Even after an exhausting shift spent constantly by this patient’s side, Emily stayed well past her shift to make sure this patient got onto the transport vehicle safely and that every lifesaving measure this patient required was properly set up and ready for transport. This patient had a very poor prognosis and wasn’t expected to arrive alive at the facility that is currently providing him with the higher level of care needed to ensure the best outcome. Emily’s meticulous care and planning that day provided an outcome that is nothing short of miraculous.
