It has been such a light in my life having someone care for me and feel as though she really does believe in me.
In the long 7-month admission I have been here, Sara has been by my side for it all, through the peaks and valleys. It has been a very rough 7 months coming out of a near-death experience, and being 22 in a hospital was a whole new thing for me. It is so easy to feel alone when you sit by yourself in a 6-by-6 room all day, every day.

Sara has never given up, it would've been very easy for Sara to pass the torch to another nurse but she has been in this fight with me. One specific example is when I was struggling with taking my antibiotic, she would make a game out of taking it to give me an incentive to take it. Although I have been on an adult unit where the majority of the patients are older, Sara consistently changed the way she cared for me to meet my specific needs, even though it may not have been a "normal" way of doing things.

I will always remember the time she told me "you and I are a team, we get through bad and good days together and I am with you every step of the way." It has been such a light in my life having someone care for me and feel as though she really does believe in me. Something I have struggled with my whole life is feeling as though people will give up on me when things get hard. Sara has not only stuck by me, but she consistently goes the extra mile to show me that she is here for me on this long trek of an admission.

Another thing that has stuck with me about the times Sara has worked with me is that even when she has a tough day or a hard moment, she leaves it at my door. Every time she comes into my room, she has a positive attitude but also shows that she is still human, which makes it feel genuine. There are countless examples of times where Sara has gone above and beyond, but those are just a few. I will never forget all of the time we have spent together and how she has impacted my life.

Words don't quite express the gratitude that my parents and I have for her. It is easy to give awards to the nurses who do CPR on someone or save them in a literal life-or-death moment, but what we don't recognize enough are the nurses who are saving lives in a different way, through their positive energy each day, or just showing you that you are not alone, advocating for you with a doctor. These are all things Sara has done, although she hasn't literally saved my life; she has saved my life in a way that one will never understand.
