Salma exemplifies what it means to be a nurse. Her heart, her strength, her skill, and her humanity shine in everything she does
During an incredibly difficult and emotional time for our family, Salma's presence brought light, laughter, and comfort. From the moment we met her, Salma radiated calm and kindness. She carried herself with such grace and confidence, which immediately put us at ease. Her clinical skill was evident in everything she did, including changing those new caps!
What stood out the most was the way she made us feel cared for, seen, and genuinely supported. Salma’s sense of humor truly made a difference in our experience. Even during some of the toughest moments, she brought a lightness that helped lift our spirits. It felt like we weren't just talking to a nurse, but to a good friend who understood exactly what we were going through. Her laughter and playful nature brought comfort and eased our anxieties.
Another thing that stood out was how Salma made sure my husband knew it was okay to not be okay. She didn't just accept "I'm fine" at face value. She took the time to get to know him, noticed subtle changes in his mood or physical state, and made it clear that he didn't have to put on a brave face for anyone. She empowered him to voice his discomfort and needs, creating a safe space for him to express how he was truly feeling. She consistently went out of her way to make sure my husband was comfortable, checking in regularly, anticipating his needs, and ensuring he understood what was happening with his care.
She also made space for me, too. She looked me in the eye, asked how I was doing, and meant it. She saw me not just as the patient's wife, but as someone walking through something hard, and she met me there with compassion and empathy. Salma’s ability to balance her clinical expertise with genuine kindness, humor, and a deep understanding of her patients made a world of difference. She brought a sense of calm and control, never rushed, and always made us feel valued. Salma exemplifies what it means to be a nurse.
