I truly believe my birth was successful because of Jhenelle. I felt her unwavering support and sincere joy for my growing family.
I was admitted to Labor and Delivery for complications and 23 weeks of pregnancy; it was a very scary moment as a first-time mother. Jhenelle was the nurse who worked with me at my admission and serendipitously was also with me the night I delivered 14 days later. I also had the pleasure of being assigned to her another night during my stay. Each time I was assigned to Jhenelle, she went above and beyond to meet not only my physical needs but also my emotional ones.

Being considered high risk with potential for fetal complications comes with a lot of fears, anxieties, and uncomfortable medical monitoring/interventions. One night, after being on continuous fetal monitoring for >48 hours with intermittent NPO orders, I tried to fall asleep. The tight and itchy monitors around my abdomen for the past two days finally made me lose it around 11 pm at night. We called Jhenelle to help with the discomfort. She tried interventions nobody else had tried yet and made sure I was comfortable before leaving. But on top of that, she sat with me and talked to me about my anxieties and then started discussing things we had in common to help me find some relief before bed. It worked for me so well in that moment to help me find comfort, and I was able to get some sleep despite continued monitoring.

I had similar experiences during my birth, which came way faster than anyone thought. Jhenelle rarely left my side during labor as my baby was hard to track, so she sat there hand-holding the monitor, making sure we were catching the baby's heart rhythm accurately and consistently, which led us to improved delivery outcomes. Birth and all that comes after left me feeling vulnerable and afraid - especially with my baby in the NICU. Jhenelle stood by my side, unwavering, and walked me through everything with compassion, education, and joy. She even brought me to the NICU before post-partum so that I could see my baby. It was a moment of kindness that will live indefinitely in my heart.

I truly believe my birth was successful because of Jhenelle. I felt her unwavering support and sincere joy for my growing family. I was so pleased to have her assigned to me for three nights of a 13-night stay. It was a joy!
