First, I’d like to say almost every nurse I encountered during my eight-week stay was very good! I’ve been a quadriplegic for 40 years and encountered many medical professionals over that time. I’ve also trained many nurses to deal with my personal care and medical needs. During my time at St. Luke’s, I needed to explain to a new nurse almost every other night about my personal care due to the scheduling. What impressed me most was how well everyone listened to what my needs were and tried to accommodate them as best as possible.

Given the tight schedules and many other patients, this is no small task. My care takes approximately 1.5 hours if everything goes smoothly, so needless to say, fitting this into a nurse's schedule is asking a lot. Ana was a float nurse that took care of me for three nights in a row and from the first day, she impressed me not with only with her diligently, listening to my concerns and needs, but her experience allowed her to predict the reasons why I did things certain ways. She was definitely in sync with me and my needs. Even more, she was so kind and friendly that I was very comfortable talking and explaining things to her. She truly made me feel comfortable and safe.

I knew I was in good hands, regardless of how well my medical needs turned out. Sparing any graphic details. Suffice to say, she was required to help me go to the bathroom while in bed, and it is not a pleasant experience for anyone. She made this go very smoothly, and we even had a good time doing it with the assistance of another person. After going through all of my cares, she expressed to me how nervous she was going into the process, but it never showed.

Her confidence and listening skills truly made a difference for us both. I had her for three nights, and I saw her always pleasant with everyone while dealing with her entire patient caseload, which sounded stressful, especially since she wasn’t used to looking or she wanted. Well, I’d love to recognize everybody on the floor, and Ana truly stood out as exceptional, and I appreciate the attention and care that she showed me. Thank you!
