Every day she comes to work, I believe she leaves the hospital a better place, with happier, more satisfied employees.
Mayra is honestly a walking, breathing poster girl for the HCA mission values. Every day she comes to work, I believe she leaves the hospital a better place, with happier, more satisfied employees. Her hard work has been shown in many departments, but the specific example I will give is for the ICU and ED nurses.

When the interventional neuro program started rolling out in full force in the early fall of 2024, Mayra taught multiple classes on EVD, including live demonstrations. Apart from the classes, Mayra would also go in person to double-check on the nurses who were caring for the EVD patients and help them troubleshoot if need be. Lastly, Mayra helped implement a checklist that was initially used to help the new neuro nurses feel more comfortable and competent in the care of the patient. This ranged from how often the neuro assessments would be done as per policy, which medications could be expected for the patients, patient education, and documentation for the patient.

With Mayra's positive attitude, she was able to instill much confidence in them, and this has helped those same new neuro nurses pass on their skill set and positivity to the new nurses coming into the ICU department. There is not a single day that Mayra does not live our mission and values. She goes above and beyond for every single employee, not just nurses or the leadership team, but anyone who needs assistance, such as lab, RTs, or any department in the facility. She has constant communication with all new hires for education and regularly has skills checks in the ICU or in the classroom. She reaches out to staff and leaders via text, WebEx, or email.

I love her "get it done" attitude. She works with all departments (i.e., Quality, stroke NP, Physicians, sepsis NP, IR, IP, etc.) to ensure our nurses have the most up-to-date, evidence-based knowledge and competency. She has assisted at the bedside in the ED and ICU for bedside procedures such as burr hole or EVD insertion to increase the nurse residents' practice and provide in-time education in the units. She is an expert in cardiovascular surgical procedures, Infection prevention, chest tubes, EVD management and troubleshooting, ACLS, Impella and balloon pump management, and with her extensive knowledge, she serves as an expert for our critical care areas; not to mention that she is efficient, effective, but above everything else, she is safe.

If I had to choose one word to describe her practice and how she facilitates learning, it would be that she is always looking out for the safety of our patients. She is board-certified and open to trying new things and listening to the voice of the customer. She excels in every single thing she does. If I had to clone someone in the facility, it would be Mayra. Her attention to detail and follow-up is outstanding as well; she follows thoroughly with the new ECG corporate guidelines and constantly follows up with the staff to ensure a competency is in place for the required units. She is involved in many committees and task forces to improve processes and workflow in the unit. There are many times that she will work and eat at her desk because she just needs to get this done.
