We requested a priest to visit, and she actually participated and held C’s hand while he was being administered his last rites.
I want to nominate Kaitlyn. She was working in NeuroICU at Hamot in Erie, PA, when my son arrived with a critical gunshot wound to his head. She works weekends, and I couldn’t have asked for anyone better than having her at C’s bedside until his passing. Kaitlyn provided nothing but warmth and comfort to me, as well as the rest of C’s family. My wife and mother are also nurses, which made this relationship much stronger and “real.” We requested a priest to visit, and she actually participated and held C’s hand while he was being administered his last rites. I can’t thank her enough for the compassion she exhibited. Nursing is a brutal occupation, and when you come across someone like Kaitlyn, they make an everlasting impression. Kaitlyn helped take the most horrific situation that ever happened to me and provided some comfort and peace in the way she made the last hours of his life soothing.
