He stayed late to ensure that every scheduled patient received their dialysis treatment despite the earlier delay.
I would like to recognize Von Espina for his outstanding dedication and compassionate care, which exemplifies the spirit of the DAISY Award. Recently, over the weekend, our Hemodialysis Unit experienced a critical bicarb supply shortage due to a vendor backorder. This shortage posed a risk to our ability to provide timely dialysis treatments for our patients. Von immediately voiced concern for our patients' well-being and took swift action to find a solution. While I was working with Distribution, Von began reaching out to outpatient dialysis clinics to seek assistance. With the support of a Nephrologist, we were able to connect with a clinic willing to share the same supply. Without delay, Von drove to the outpatient clinic, confirmed the product was similar, and picked up 15 gallons of the necessary solution. He stayed late to ensure that every scheduled patient received their dialysis treatment despite the earlier delay. Thanks to Von's commitment and proactive response, patient care was not compromised. His actions reflected exceptional leadership, teamwork, and dedication to patient safety. Staff members like Von, who go above and beyond regardless of the situation, are the reason our patients continue to receive excellent care.

Von, it is because of this and much more that you are so deserving of this recognition. Thank you for all you do and continue to do for the patients at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, putting patients first and people always!
