She made me feel human again. That, with her impeccable care, greatly impacted me during one of the worst moments of my life.
Kyung provided me care several different times throughout my month-and-a-half-long journey. I knew she was nice from the beginning, but over time, I learned she was so much more than that. She always provides an extremely consistent and reliable level of care, which is very difficult to achieve as a nurse, especially on the night shift. I always know that when I call for help, she will be the one who answers, and that if I need medication, either she's bringing it to me right away or she has already informed another nurse and asked them to take care of me. This may sound like an expected reality in the hospital when your nurse is dealing with a life-or-death emergency, your pain medication isn't exactly a priority, or at least it shouldn't be. Everyone Kyung Young takes care of and is responsible for is a priority to her.
This is a great type of nurse to have, but it's still something you hopefully see regularly enough that it's not super unique. However, what really set Kyung apart was how she always, always, always remembered every single tiny little thing that had been asked of her. Even when you don't remember certain things, she got them handled! I'm referring to complicated, specific, tedious, and random needs that aren't even always her job; she'll remember and will absolutely always handle any situation you need her help with. If it's not something she can handle herself, she will figure out the logistics and still make sure it happens.
The thing that impacted me the most was tonight when she was giving me my night meds, and it was really late and I needed to go to sleep period she started telling me what she wanted me to do the most and focus on the most at the time, and I was going to be getting some sleep, but instead she mentioned what an expert I was at wound care already and how truly good I was at it, how I had a gift for it and she really wanted me to look into getting certified. What she said called me so completely off guard for several reasons, but after being left here for so long I also just forgot what it was like to have somebody connect with me personally or even compliment something they noticed about me.
I'm sure I just sound like I'm rattling at this point, but I really wanted to know what an impact she had on me. She made me feel human again. That, with her impeccable care, greatly impacted me during one of the worst moments of my life. Kyung is truly a one-of-a-kind, one-in-a-billion nurse who cannot be replaced and is definitely invaluable to the hospital. Thank you, Kyung, so much for your amazing nursing and compassionate heart!
