I would like to nominate Heather for this award because she exemplifies every quality of an extraordinary nurse! This was my seventh baby, and I had expected another traditional vaginal delivery, like my previous six. Unfortunately, my birth plan unexpectedly shifted to my first c-section. What followed was a much longer and more difficult recovery than I had prepared for. Through this challenging and emotional time, Heather cared for me in ways that went beyond her job description. She was my day nurse for most of my stay while recovering in the Mother Infant Care Unit, and I truly believe she made all the difference in my recovery! She did not just tend to my medical needs- she treated me like a friend. When she saw I was struggling, she sat with me, listened, and offered encouragement that lifted my spirits and helped me push through.

She supported me physically and emotionally, with conversations that went beyond my health to life, parenting, and family. She later realized, through these talks, that she had also been my nurse 5 years ago, when I delivered my son! This made our connection even more meaningful! She advocated for me in ways I will never forget. When technicians were recording unusually high blood pressure readings, she stepped in herself to ensure an accurate reading was documented so I could receive the best possible care. She also reassured me about taking the full recovery time offered by my insurance, reminding me it was ok to fully heal before returning home.

Her encouragement gave me peace of mind and the confidence to put my health first without guilt for motherhood. Her kindness, compassion, advocacy, and professionalism stood out in every interaction! She is truly an outstanding nurse who changes the lives of her patients not only through skill but through genuine care and connection. I am deeply grateful for her role in my recovery and would love to see her recognized with this award, which she so richly deserves!
