Her kindness inspires me to be a better nurse.
This nomination is two years in the making, as I previously submitted an online form that never made it to Amber, but this impact was so huge that here I am nominating her again.
My labor did not go as planned, and my son spent some time in the NICU. While I sat in my postpartum room feeling like I was failing him because he was being cared for by someone else, Amber’s love and care made all the difference in the world to me. She celebrated with me every step of the way. She celebrated when I was able to pump enough to feed my son, celebrated when my colostrum turned to full milk, she celebrated when my son continued to get better in the NICU, and she even celebrated when I used the restroom for the first time after my c-section.
Amber treated me like a friend and human, not just as a patient she was getting paid to care for. I will never forget when she brought me pain medication while I was with my son at the NICU. She somehow knew I would be in pain, but did not want to leave my baby. I know she had to be busy, but she still went out of her way to do that for me, and it meant so much.
Recovering after a baby is so hard, but she made it a little bit easier. She is so compassionate, and moms are so lucky that she chose nursing as a career. Her kindness inspires me to be a better nurse. I hope that amazing things happen to her every day because she deserves it.
