Pam never loses sight of safe, excellent patient care.
Pam Bays exemplifies the heart of what it means to be a DAISY Nurse Leader. As the Director of the Main OR CVOR and surgery scheduling, overseeing more than 100 staff members, she consistently leads with empathy, integrity, and strength. Despite the immense responsibilities placed on her shoulders, including being called upon to resolve challenges even outside her area (such as Main Pre-Op, Main PACU, and PAV Surgery,) Pam approaches each task with calmness and grace. She leads with heart.
Pam doesn't just manage staff, she sees them. She tears up when speaking about team members going through difficult times, and that emotional connection is a powerful reminder that leadership can be compassionate. Yet when a firm hand is needed, she is never afraid to be direct and decisive. She balances being strong and supportive. She fights for her staff while maintaining professionalism. Pam consistently involves staff in problem-solving when she can, making it clear that their voice matters. She celebrates the small wins and always pushes us to build a better, stronger team. She is present, rounding, seeking input, and truly leading from the front.
More importantly, Pam never loses sight of safe, excellent patient care. Pam leads with grace and heart. She deserves to be recognized, not just for the outcomes she drives but for the way she makes everyone around her feel seen, heard, and valued.
