My husband had surgery that required an overnight stay in the hospital. He is a retired Army Ranger and has had to have several surgeries over the course of his life. I say that because over the years we have worked with many nurses, and Tameka has been the most amazing nurse that we have ever had!

From the beginning, she has the most caring bedside manner. She listened, took her time to thoroughly get all of his medical information so that she had an understanding of him. She checked on him more than I have ever seen a nurse do. She cleaned him up near the wound where he was bleeding. She kept his water topped up and ensured his pain was managed.

I am not only commending her for her medical care, but also for her genuine care and concern for her patient. She talked to him about his favorite topic - cruising! As she walked him around the halls, I could hear him brighten up as he told her more about cruising. She took the time to get to know her patient, and her kind demeanor made a huge difference to both my husband’s and my mood.

Relationships matter, especially during a time when people are feeling their worst. Surgery isn’t fun. Nobody looks forward to it, but it sure does make things easier when the people who are caring for you show that they care about the people they are working with. Sadly, this hasn’t always been the case. But it sure was nice to see this little ray of sunshine today when we had the pleasure of having Tameka as my husband’s nurse!

I feel confident that Tameka treats all of her patients this way, and I hope she never forgets the way that she makes them feel - just by showing she cares!
