She went above and beyond, making all the difference in a potentially dangerous situation, to a patient who was later discharged home, thanks to the great care, with tears in her eyes.
Dawnielle was precepting a new RN in orientation and was assigned an unresponsive patient. The patient had a seizure and was disoriented when she woke up, and became aggressive and threatening. The patient was scared. Security was near the room, and the provider was discussing a hands-on intervention, placing the patient on a capacity hold for concerns with her altered state.
Dawnielle maintained her calm demeanor, staying with the patient, not leaving her side. She was able to calm her down by calling her family at her request and making sure her children were taken care of, and her sister knew how to get to Mentor Hospital. Dawnielle listened to the patient and supported her. Dawnielle then personally transported the patient to her CT scan and stayed with her so she would not be alone.
She went above and beyond, making all the difference in a potentially dangerous situation, to a patient who was later discharged home, thanks to the great care, with tears in her eyes. This is one example where she was a shining example to our new nurses of what caring for a patient truly means.
