Her heart for nursing, her willingness to go above and beyond, and her quiet but powerful leadership make her not only an exceptional nurse but an irreplaceable one.
Kara has consistently demonstrated extraordinary clinical skills and compassionate care, qualities the DAISY Award was created to honor. In a time of significant transition for our Plastic Surgery team, Kara has shown strong leadership, dedication, and compassion, qualities that make her truly deserving of this recognition.
When our entire plastics clinical team turned over, Kara was the first to step into this new chapter. She jumped straight into onboarding and quickly began learning our unique workflows. Despite being hired as a part-time nurse, Kara took on the demands of onboarding with energy, humility, and drive. But she didn't stop there. After finishing her own training, she immediately took on the role of training our next new nurses, something not typically expected of someone so new. She did so with patience, kindness, and confidence, making sure her teammates felt supported every step of the way.
She also picked up extra shifts, ensured her teammate felt supported, and poured herself into building a cohesive and capable team from the ground up. Kara has quickly become the leader of our small but mighty three-person medical staff. Her leadership is not about having a title; it's about her actions. She sets the tone through her work ethic, attitude, and willingness to help wherever she's needed.
In just a few months, she has earned the trust of her colleagues and the respect of physicians, patients, and leadership alike. In addition to being a strong team player, Kara's care for our patients is incredible. She makes every patient feel safe, valued, and heard. What makes Kara truly special is that she doesn't seek recognition. She gives 100% every day because she cares about her team, her patients, and her role as a nurse.
