I arrived by ambulance, suffering from severe diarrhea and vomiting for 5 days prior, so I was extremely ill. The ER determined I was Septic and was admitted. My team of nurses on the 5th floor couldn’t have been more efficient and caring. When the night nurses arrived, I was assigned a lovely lady named Kat. From the moment she entered my room, I felt a calmness come over me. She had the biggest smile and sweetest mannerisms. I could just tell that her heart was huge and she loved her job. She seemed very happy to help. After 24 hours of IV with antibiotics, I came out of shock and realized just how sick I was. My body was worn out, and I was extremely weak. That night, I cried over the seriousness of this illness. Kat stayed with me and offered herself to listen to my fears. Kat spoke to me sweetly and explained what was happening to my body. We shared stories about life. I realize now just what perfect medicine her sweet, smiling demeanor was for me. Not only did I receive exceptional care from her, but I also felt that she was an angel sent to watch over me. I’m confident that this nurse must provide every one of her patients with excellent care that feels like a warm hug from a family member. I had fantastic nurses and superior care, but I chose Kat because of her concern for my feelings, not just my health.
