Naturally, my father was anxious and worried, but Hubert took the time to reassure him, calmly and compassionately, that she would be okay.
Today, we are proud to recognize Hubert Espiritu, RN, for delivering compassionate, patient-centered care that embodies the heart of nursing. This DAISY nomination comes from a family, following the care Hubert provided during Mr. E’s recovery from two heart procedures:
“We, as a family, would like to recognize Hubert Espiritu for the extraordinary care, compassion, and dedication he showed to my father during his recovery from two heart procedures. From the moment he began caring for my father, it was clear that Hubert's commitment went far beyond routine medical duties. Hubert not only provided excellent clinical care but also gave my father comfort, dignity, and reassurance during a very vulnerable time.
What stood out most was Hubert's attentiveness. No matter the request, big or small, he was there immediately, responding with patience and kindness, along with great moments of laughter and humor, which brought ease to my father. My father felt truly cared for, never like a burden, and that sense of respect and compassion meant the world to him and to our family.
An unforgettable moment was when my mother was unexpectedly wheeled into the emergency room while my father was still recovering. Naturally, my father was anxious and worried, but Hubert took the time to reassure him, calmly and compassionately, that she would be okay. That simple act of kindness lifted a heavy weight from my father’s heart in that moment and gave our family comfort in the middle of a frightening situation.
It is rare to encounter a nurse who combines such professional excellence with genuine human compassion. However, not rare for Hackensack's Mountainside nurses, who were all exceptional. Hubert exemplifies the very best of nursing, providing not just medical care, but emotional support and humanity to patients and their families. My father’s recovery was made easier, and our family’s burden was made lighter because of him. We will always remember his kindness with deep gratitude. When we asked our father who he wanted to nominate, his eyes lit up as he said Hubert. Hubert's last name means Spirit, and there are individuals brought in for a calling, and Hubert is a spirit to others, while cheering their spirits.
