I would like to nominate Amber, my daughter’s NICU nurse, for the DAISY Award. From the very first night we met her, she showed not only exceptional skill and professionalism, but also a level of compassion and comfort that made such a difference during a very difficult time. The NICU can feel overwhelming and isolating, but Amber went out of her way to make sure we never felt alone. On long nights, when the hours felt heavy and uncertain, Amber would take the time to sit with me and chat. She didn’t have to do that—she could have simply done her job and moved on—but instead, she recognized the importance of supporting not only her tiny patient, but also the parents at the bedside. Those conversations gave me strength, comfort, and a sense of calm that I desperately needed. Amber’s care extended beyond the medical needs of my daughter; she truly cared for our whole family. Her kindness and willingness to go above and beyond made the NICU feel a little less frightening. She treated us with dignity, respect, and genuine compassion, and for that I will always be grateful. Amber embodies what it means to be a nurse—skillful, caring, and deeply human—and she is so deserving of the DAISY Award!
