Nursing is a demanding job, and I am sure that he had a billion other things to do those days, but he was able to give my grandma and me exactly what we needed and made a truly awful situation just a little bit better.
My grandmother was admitted to the CICU, and Brett was one of the nurses who spent the most time with her for the duration of her stay. While I was there, Brett was the perfect nurse. He was caring, made sure that she was as comfortable as she could be, gave her the right to make decisions in her care, and kept me informed of what was happening. Even when I was asking a billion questions that I am sure were bothering him, he was willing to answer them, make sure that I felt involved, and that I knew what was happening.

When it became clear that my grandma would not survive her disease process, he was there to explain my questions, make sure she was comfortable, and help to buy us more time until the family could gather to say goodbye. Brett helped bring my family comfort during this difficult time, and he worked so hard over this month.

Watching my grandma come into the hospital sick, get better only to get sick again, and then eventually pass away from her disease is one of the hardest things I have gone through, but Brett was there for me to make sure that I felt comforted, knew what was happening, and felt involved. Nursing is a demanding job, and I am sure that he had a billion other things to do those days, but he was able to give my grandma and me exactly what we needed and made a truly awful situation just a little bit better. His caring attitude, excellent clinical knowledge, and comforting personality truly made a difference to me, and I know that my grandma appreciated it as well.
