I am nominating our Endoscopy Team for the DAISY Team Award in recognition of our outstanding professionalism, teamwork, and compassion during a recent medical emergency that unfolded during what was a routine procedure. Mid-procedure, the patient began to rapidly decline and required emergency intubation, administration of vasopressor medications, and multiple units of blood. The response from the Endoscopy Team was nothing short of extraordinary.

Every member of the Team immediately sprang into action. The team assessed and led critical interventions while our nursing staff obtained additional IV access, coordinated emergent blood transfusions, obtained warmer, rapid infusion supplies, and other needed equipment and supplies. The situation demanded not only critical excellence, but also critical decision–making, effective communication, and respectful mutual support. This team delivered all of that and more. Despite the intensity of the moment, the environment remained calm and controlled thanks to the trust, experience, and synergy among the Endoscopy Team. All the coordination ensured that the patient received life-saving care without delay, and the patient was stabilized for transfer to the ICU.

Our actions not only saved a life but also demonstrated the highest ideals of what it means to work as a healthcare team. It was a powerful reminder of how much can be accomplished when every role is valued, and every action is centered around the patient. For this reason and many more, our Endoscopy Team that came together that day is incredibly deserving of the DAISY Team Award.
