Just a few minutes with Jeff turned my anxiety into peace.
Before stepping into the role of nurse manager on Witt 3, Jeff was a bedside nurse—and you can still see that in everything he does. His leadership is deeply rooted in compassion, presence, and the perspective of someone who has walked in our shoes.
When I first started as a new nurse, I was eager to learn but overwhelmed by how much there was to navigate. Jeff’s guidance created a safe, supportive environment where I felt comfortable asking questions and growing into my role. He encourages every nurse on our team to keep learning, keep asking, and keep striving to be better—not through pressure, but through encouragement and example.
Witt 3 is a busy progressive care unit, but having Jeff as our manager makes all the difference. He brings calm, positivity, and steady reassurance, no matter how challenging the day. He is both an exceptional leader and an extraordinary nurse. Many patients who encounter him share the same sentiment: “He’s such a great nurse.” Hearing that from patients in some of their most vulnerable moments says everything about the care and presence he brings.
One of the ways Jeff demonstrates his dedication is through his support of new nurses. He developed a comprehensive clinical resource notebook specifically for new hires on our floor—filled with helpful tips, procedures, and clinical pearls. This resource has made a tremendous difference in easing the transition for new staff, reflecting Jeff’s commitment to setting every nurse up for success.
Countless moments reflect who Jeff is, but one in particular stands out. We cared for a patient who was extremely anxious before the procedure. Despite our best efforts, their fear remained overwhelming. Jeff came in, sat with the patient, and took the time to truly listen. He spoke with clarity and calm, reassured them with empathy, and never rushed the interaction. By the end of their conversation, the patient’s fear had eased, and they later told us, “Just a few minutes with Jeff turned my anxiety into peace.”
That story is just one of many. Whether it’s guiding staff, supporting patients, or leading our unit with steadiness and compassion, Jeff continually goes above and beyond. His presence transforms Witt 3 from a busy PCU into a supportive and healing environment for both patients and staff.
Jeff is a compassionate nurse, a dedicated leader, and someone who makes a meaningful difference every single day. He embodies the true spirit of nursing leadership, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
