Leah is the most selfless nurse that I have ever had the privilege of working with. There is no “I” in her TEAM! There have been multiple occasions that I have seen Leah go above and beyond to ensure the well-being of her patients. This situation that I speak of is only one of the MANY times I have seen her do this, but this one speaks to who Leah really is! Leah was laboring a mother who was about to deliver her 4th baby and her 1st baby girl. The father was caring for the other 3 children while trying to support his significant other during labor. There is a general rule on our unit that young children are not allowed in the delivery room during delivery. Leah felt that it would be unfair to ask this father to leave the room with the other 3 children while the mother gave birth alone. Leah came to me and asked if I would mind sitting at the desk so that one of the other nurses could sit in the waiting room with the children, so the father could be in the room for the birth of his baby girl. All because of Leah’s heart for her patients, this father was able to be in the delivery room to support his significant other and witness the birth of his daughter! There were no long-drawn-out conversations with the family on how to get the kids taken care of during the delivery. Leah and our team just made it happen. This family was so grateful for all that Leah did to support them during their admission. Leah has been nominated numerous times for a DAISY Award, and the garden on her badge continues to grow! She is so deserving of this award in everything she does!
