A complete stranger carried me through so much pain and fear. She saw me at my most vulnerable, supported me through it all, and made me feel safe.
When I met Maria on overnights as my nurse, she walked into the room smiling, radiating positivity and warmth. I knew instantly that I could trust her. She made me feel comfortable during one of the most vulnerable moments of my life.
I had my baby girl, and I still think about Maria and how I could not have made it through my birth without her. A complete stranger carried me through so much pain and fear. She saw me at my most vulnerable, supported me through it all, and made me feel safe.
I had Maria as my nurse for three days in a row while admitted. During my epidural, she held me and comforted me, wiping my tears as I cried through contractions. She reminded me how strong I was and that everything would be okay. Before her shift ended, she came into my room, hugged me, and told me how amazing I did.
When she came back on shift two days later, she came to my room to see me and my daughter and check on us. That meant the world to me. Maria was not only there for me, she was there for my husband too, making sure he was comfortable, helping set up the chair bed, and ensuring we both had everything we needed.
She often came in just to check on us, even if I hadn’t called, simply to make sure we were okay. It is rare to find a nurse like her. She is the definition of compassion, kindness, and dedication.
