While I was intubated for eight days, I missed quite a bit, including discovering that I had a deep incision from my sternum to my pelvis. It would take time to heal, and it came as quite a surprise. A wound vac was applied, and there were bumps in the road, such as waking up under very bloody sheets.

The team was great. Dressing changes were painful at times, but the wound was making progress. The first time Meredith changed the vac and dressing, I was so impressed. Everything went so quickly and efficiently. She showed the same skill and care each time she did the vac change. Her experience and professionalism were matched only by her genuine compassion for her patients.

One morning, I told my fiancé,  “I hope Meredith comes for the vac change. I’m so at ease and confident when she does it. She’s like my Florence Nightingale, and I know everything will be great.” It was Meredith who came, and when my fiancé told her what I said, Meredith replied, “You’re going to make me cry.”

In a large group of people who we found to be outstanding at the hospital, Meredith really stands out. Thank you, Meredith!
