Our unit recently cared for a patient who had been made DNR–Comfort Care and was awaiting hospice placement. He had no family or visitors.

During his final days, Marissa cared for him over two shifts and showed extraordinary compassion. She would pause what she was doing to sit with him and hold his hand, ensuring that he knew someone was there and that he was not alone.

Because of Marissa’s quiet presence, kindness, and gentle care, the patient appeared more at ease and at peace. She made sure that he was never alone during his final moments, providing comfort and dignity at the end of his life.
