She hugged me and said, 'Just let it out because it will make you feel better, and I am right here with you.'
On Monday night, a lady walked in and introduced herself as my nurse for the night. “Good night, my name is Rachel, and I will be your nurse for the night. I came by earlier, but you were asleep and I did not want to wake you.” My husband and daughter were with me, and she told them that if they needed anything, she would be around.
She came back after they left and asked me about my pain and how I am coping with everything. Later was my medication time, and I told her I was in pain and I needed my pain pills first.
I turned to close my phone, and a picture of my deceased brother came up on the screen, and I started to cry. Rachel, without hesitation, stopped what she was doing and asked why I was crying. I couldn’t say “why,” but she sat beside me and put her arms around me and said, “I am here for you, please let me help you.” She hugged me and said, "Just let it out because it will make you feel better, and I am right here with you." I just kept crying, and her words of encouragement were so powerful that I cried more. She said, “Your brother is now your guardian angel, and I strongly believe that he is watching over you.”
She said, “I have to go, but I will keep you in my prayers," and I should consider myself special.
She told me that she treats everyone as if they were her family because I am somebody’s mother, sister, and wife. She said she went into nursing because she has a passion for it and for making her patients happy. Her hugs were powerful. Her smile was infectious because I found myself smiling. What a nurse!! I felt like I just got better, or she would definitely get me better. She came back a couple more times to check up on me and to ensure that my pain level was good. I need another hug like Rachel’s and just another pep talk.
She came back on Tuesday night, and she came by again, smiling. “I am here with you again,” she said. The passion and interest she shows toward me, a complete stranger, and her patient, whom she just met, is commendable. Throughout the night again, Rachel kept up with me, ensuring that I was ok.
Truly a wonderful nurse who needs to be honored for the quality nursing service she gives to her patients. I spoke to 2 more patients, and they all agreed that she is the best they have seen since they were here.
Good luck, my nurse, keep up the good work.
