Ruth ensured I was comfortable throughout and responded to my growing concerns with warmth, kindness, and genuine care.
Since the end of January, I have been admitted to City Hospital on five occasions, and each time, the care I received has been truly wonderful. On this occasion, I would like to recognize Ruth for her keen observation and compassionate care, which ensured my procedure went ahead and resulted in a significant improvement in my medical condition.
Ruth was on the night shift and brought a cheerful presence to the ward, greeting everyone warmly as she began her shift. One night, I was particularly distressed because my name had not appeared on the list for the procedure I was expecting the following day. Earlier that day, I had experienced an episode of atrial fibrillation, an unpleasant and distressing condition, which unfortunately returned that night, making it impossible to sleep.
Ruth had been monitoring me closely and, in the early hours, performed an ECG. She promptly contacted the duty registrar, who prescribed medication that successfully halted the episode, allowing me to finally get some much-needed rest. Ruth ensured I was comfortable throughout and responded to my growing concerns with warmth, kindness, and genuine care.
The joy I felt the following morning when I was informed that my name was now on the list for the procedure is difficult to put into words. Had Ruth not performed that ECG, I may not have been added, and the outcome could have been very different. I don’t know exactly how the system works behind the scenes, but I am certain that Ruth’s contribution made a real difference to my care and recovery.
When you are feeling low, small acts of kindness mean everything. Ruth made all the difference that night, not just to me, but to the whole ward. When she came on duty, all the patients were visibly delighted to see her.
Thank you, Ruth, for your professionalism, compassion, and the comfort you bring to those in your care.
