As I was walking out of the unit after my mom passed, Hailey stopped and hugged me, thanking me for the privilege of caring for my mom and our family.
My mother was a patient in critical condition in MICU-5. Hailey was a nurse who floated to the unit from Progressive Care. As my mother’s oxygen levels increased, she became more and more confused. She tried to climb out of bed, thought she had soiled herself and needed changing, wanted something to eat but was NPO, and her speech became increasingly disoriented.
Throughout the day, Hailey provided compassionate and responsive care. When our family came back into the room at one point, my mom had Hailey by the hand and was talking to her, though she wasn’t making any sense. Hailey took the time to reassure her and calm her fears with such tenderness and patience.
When our family made the decision to transition my mother to hospice GIP, Hailey showed incredible compassion and went out of her way to accommodate our entire family as we said our final goodbyes. I’m fairly certain she even cried along with us when our beautiful mother took her last breath. As I was walking out of the unit after my mom passed, Hailey stopped and hugged me, thanking me for the privilege of caring for my mom and our family.
On behalf of our entire family, we will forever be grateful for Hailey’s care.
