Once she realized she had cared for our son, she remembered us and asked how our family was doing. That simple, sincere gesture truly meant a lot.
I would like to nominate Elizabeth Talley for the DAISY Award in recognition of the exceptional care she provided during my husband’s recent stay at Skagit Valley Hospital. Throughout her shift, Elizabeth was consistently attentive, compassionate, and professional. She took the time to speak with my husband, explain each step of her care, and check in frequently to ensure he was as comfortable as possible—physically and emotionally. She worked closely with the doctors to coordinate his care and made sure he understood what was happening. Most importantly, she treated him with respect and kindness, helping to ease his anxiety and showing genuine concern for his well-being. Whether it was ensuring he had his prescribed medications, something as simple as ice chips, or the items he needed for a shower, Elizabeth always made sure he felt heard and cared for.
What made this even more meaningful for our family is that Elizabeth had previously cared for our son during his stay in the same unit last year. Our son was admitted in critical condition. He spent three weeks in the CCU before sadly passing away. During that difficult time, Elizabeth was part of the exceptional medical team that cared for him. She communicated clearly and compassionately, kept us informed, and treated both our son and our family with great respect. Her ability to provide excellent clinical care while also supporting us emotionally stood out then—and still does.
When my husband was later admitted, Elizabeth recognized him immediately. Once she realized she had cared for our son, she remembered us and asked how our family was doing. That simple, sincere gesture truly meant a lot. Our family sent a thank-you card to the nursing team following our son’s passing, but this nomination gives us the opportunity to formally recognize Elizabeth for the profound impact she made on us. Her compassion, professionalism, and unwavering dedication reflect the very best of what nursing should be. Nominating Elizabeth for the DAISY Award feels like the most meaningful way to honor the exceptional care she provided—not just through her actions, but through the genuine heart she brings to her work. We are truly grateful that someone of her caliber is part of the team at Skagit Valley Hospital.
